G&G L85A2

Do you love tea? Do you love Elizabeth II? Do you love bullpups?

If you answer yes to one or more questions, then this is the gun for you. The G&G L85A2, as you can read, this is a replica of the SA80 L85A2, current rifle of the British Armed Forces. Want to know more? Luckily, I know how to copy and paste:

The SA80 (Small Arms for the 1980s) is a British family of 5.56mm small arms. It is a selective fire, gas-operated assault rifle. SA80 prototypes were trialled in 1976 and production was completed in 1994.
The L85 rifle variant of the SA80 family has been the standard issue service rifle of the British Armed Forces since 1987, replacing the L1A1 variant of the FN FAL. The improved L85A2 remains in service today. The remainder of the family comprises the L86 Light Support Weapon, the short-barrelled L22 carbine and the L98 Cadet rifle.
The SA80 was the last in a long line of British weapons (including the Lee-Enfield family) to come from the national arms development and production facility at Enfield Lock. Its bullpup configuration stems from a late-1940s programme at Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield to design a new service rifle which was known as the EM-2, which though similar in outline, was an entirely different weapon, being a highly advanced bullpup configuration rifle, which despite good performance was never adopted by the British Army.

Now when that is done, we might move on.

Out of the box

Out of the box, this is a really great gun. Once you removed the blowback. Yes, this gun comes with a blowback that makes the charging handle move back and forth like when you fire a real one. Yes, it may look cool but it only hurts the gun. The lifetime of your piston will decrease noticeably. So my advice is to remove it. Once removed, your piston will hold longer and you will get a higher rate of fire.

So what makes this such a great gun? There are many things. One thing is the fact that it is a bullpup. Internet says this about bullpup rifles

"Bullpups are firearm configurations in which the action is located behind the trigger group and alongside the shooter's face, so there is no wasted space for the buttstock as in conventional designs. This permits a shorter firearm length for the same barrel length for improved maneuverability, and reduces weight"

And that is exactly what it does. The G&G L85A2 got a inner barrel length of 510 mm. Almost twice the length of a inner barrel of a M4 rifle. Without making the gun very long. The G&G L85A2 is only 78,5 centimetres long.Just a couple of centimetres longer than a M4, but still twice the barrel. It will give you alot of accuracy.

The G&G L85A2 is a very nice gun to change parts and such. Why? It got a split gearbox. Which means that the gearbox is cut in half. The upper part contains the spring, piston and such parts. And the lower contain the gears, motor and such. This makes it alot easier when changing the spring. No need to pick it all apart. Like you have to do with a V2 gearbox (Always a pain in the arse if you ask me)

The con is that the gears is uniqe, they have to extra teeths. So does the piston. All M14/PSG-1 parts will work in this gun. Luckily, G&G sell spare parts. So no need to browse the entire web for each little part.

A thing to notice is that this gun use a standard M4 hop-up system and it takes most brands of stanag airsoft magazines.

In the field

This is an easy gun to maintain and field strip. One pin at the rear and you can split the upper and lower receiver. Which gives you access to both the upper gearbox and the hop-up chamber.

I wanna pimp my gun.

There are some stuff that you can add to your gun to give it that extra touch. As seen on a picture above, I've added a SUSAT and a RIS. The SUSAT is made by G&G and the RIS by Hornbill. Both made to fit the gun. Everything to give it that extra british touch.

Conclusion

Had this gun for years now and it have never let me down. A solid and firm piece. Perfect for both outdoor and CQB fighting.

Everyone should have one!

- Long inner barrel
- Stable and solid
