MadBull has produced almost a complete line of Noveske airsoft products, so when Noveske released the NSR, it wasn't long before MadBull had the fully trademarked airsoft version available. The NSR is one of the first handguards to incorporate the KeyMod system, a new attachment system for rifle accessories. The MadBull NSR series is available in 7, 9, 11, and 13.5 inch lengths.

Design and Features

The most interesting element of the NSR handguard is the KeyMod system. The Noveske NSR handguard is a lightweight, free float handguard. One of the weight saving measures is the modular KeyMod element. Eliminating thick rails along the handguard cuts weight, and rails can be added where needed. KeyMod slots are an upgrade over other modular rails in that they can be locked into place from the outside, without needing to fit a backing plate inside the handguard.

Construction

The MadBull Noveske NSR handguard is constructed of aircraft aluminum with a matte anodized finish. The upper rail allows for laser aiming units, extended optics, and a front sight to be mounted.nnThe tubular handguard is slim, which makes it ideal for thumb over bore shooting grips, and doesn't get too large when a rail and AFG or XTM Grip Panel are added.nnInstall on the NSR takes a little more care than some other designs. The barrel nut features a number of screw holes which line up with locking screws on the handguard. In order to index the upper rail and the receiver, I tighten the barrel nut, then screw on the handguard just offset of the receiver, and tighten it a little more until it lines up.

Conclusion

MadBull makes top quality external components. The MadBull NSR handguard features full trademarks, and is extremely well made. There are some differences between this and the real one, notably the bottom of the rail. The lower section has threaded holes for direct attachment of extra rail segments instead of KeyMod. The MadBull 9 slot rail segments fit on the sides or bottom of the handguard.

I used the 13.5 inch handguard on a 14.5 inch carbine barrel. The 11 inch handguard or 9 inch handguards combine well with MadBull 12.5 or standard 10.5 inch barrels. The 7 inch NSR handguard will fit on standard carbines behind the front sight.

If you're looking for a modular handguard for a modern, versatile AR15, check out the MadBull Noveske NSR.
